What is a Maximum Investment Plan?
The Maximum Investment Plan aims to provide a flexible, tax-efficient method of getting growth through regular investment over a time frame of 10 years or more. The Maximum Investment Plan is what HM Revenue & Customs term a ‘qualifying’ investment, therefore any growth from your investments will be free from personal income and capital gains tax as long as you continue to pay sufficient premiums for the full initial 10-year term.
In order to meet ‘qualifying’ status, the plan includes a small amount of life cover, the cost of which depends on your age and the amount you pay into the plan. The main aim of the Maximum Investment Plan however is not life assurance, but the accumulation of a capital sum. On death of the relevant life assured, the greater of the life assurance and the capital sum under each policy within the plan will be payable.
